On Saturday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m. former Major League Baseball player Derrel Thomas will be throwing out the first pitch on Opening Day of the Banning Little League season at Lions Park, located on the corner of Hargrave and Charles Streets. Derrel Thomas played 14 seasons primarily as a second baseman, center fielder and shortstop, and was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers 1981 World Series Champions.
Also scheduled for the day is a Hit-a-Thon and Home Run Derby, as well as food and craft vendors.
Banning Pass Little League is a volunteer driven non-profit organization whose mission is to “to promote, develop, supervise, and voluntarily assist in all lawful ways, the interest of those who will participate in Little League Tee Ball, Baseball and Softball.” Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists youth in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being.
